Christmas liturgies in the Springfield Diocese were followed by celebrations of the Epiphany, a mayoral inauguration, and Martin Luther King Day in local parishes. As the month draws to a close, the spotlight shines on Catholic education and the observances of Catholic Schools Week.

The feast of the Epiphany is celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Springfield with the annual telling of the story of La Befana, the woman who was too busy to travel with the Magi to see the newborn Savior. In her regret, she later gave gifts to every child she met.
