During recent weeks in the Springfield Diocese, young parishioners participated in Epiphany pageants and a visit from a legendary Epiphany character, La Befana. At St. Michael’s Cathedral, young members of the Cathedral Choir of Boys and Adults were recognized on Novice Chorister Ribbon Day.

The legendary La Befana, portrayed at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Springfield, gave travel directions to the Magi. But, always too busy with housework, she would not go with them. Later, she regretted missing her chance to meet the Christ Child.

To make up for her missed chance to meet the Child Jesus, La Befana promised to do a kind deed for every child she met. At Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Springfield, she told her story and gave gifts to the children on Epiphany.
