OBITUARY: Sister Angela Deady, SSJ

HOLYOKE — Sister of St. Joseph Angela Deady (formerly Sister Robert Christopher), 76, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield died at Mary’s Meadow, Holyoke, on Dec. 30, 2022. A native of Chicopee, Mass., she was the daughter of Robert and Bessie (Lolos) Deady.

She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from St. Patrick Parish, Chicopee, in 1964. She graduated from Cathedral High School, Springfield. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in English from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee, and a master of arts in English from Assumption College, Worcester, Mass..

She taught at Holy Trinity School, Greenfield St. Joseph High School, North Adams; Holyoke Catholic High School; and St. Joseph School, Leicester, Mass. She served as pastoral minister at All Saints Parish in Ware from 1988 to 2017. She then served as vice president of the congregation from June 2017 through June 2022.

She is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Bessie. In addition to her sisters in community, she is survived by her brothers, Robert, Christopher (Angela’s twin), Michael, Joseph, Barry Roberts; and her sister, Catherine Deady.  She also leaves several generations of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and a grandnephew.

Services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 5. The burial will take place at Mont Marie Cemetery, Lower Westfield Road in Holyoke, at 9:30 a.m. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke, prior to the Memorial Mass which will take place at 10:30 a.m.
