Catherine Glenn Foster, president and CEO of Americans United for Life, delivers the keynote address at the annual Mother’s Day Dinner at the Log Cabin restaurant in Holyoke on May 5. The annual dinner is sponsored by Massachusetts Citizens For Life.
HOLYOKE – On May 5, at the Log Cabin in Holyoke, the Massachusetts Citizens For Life (MCFL) honored mothers at its annual Mother’s Day Dinner.
Father Daniel Pacholec, pastor of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish in Westfield and diocesan director of pro-life activities, opened with a prayer to honor mothers:
“We honor our mothers and remember that it’s a gift to be able to bring life into the world. We honor them and pray for them.”
More than 100 pro-life supporters gathered in support and to hear the keynote speaker, Catherine Glenn Foster, the president and CEO of Americans United for Life (AUL). Myrna Maloney Flynn, president of MCFL, was concerned that Foster would not have time to attend given the recent news of the leaked Supreme Court document on Roe V. Wade.
“When we heard what had happened earlier this week with the leaked document, it crossed my mind that there would be no way that Catherine would have time in her schedule to join us as planned because she is in such high demand as she is on the frontlines at the Supreme Court,” said Flynn.
Foster began her keynote address by saying, “If what leaked earlier this week is anything like the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court does eventually hand down in final form, then we are so close to overturning Roe V. Wade and are on the verge of a new era in American history and thank God for that.”
She continued, speaking on the history of Roe V. Wade and the more recent Dobbs V. Jackson case where the state of Mississippi asked the state court there to uphold its abortion ban and overrule Roe by finding no constitutional right to abortion. She spoke about the draft opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito and quoted some content of the document, including “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start” and “Roe was on a collision course with the Constitution from the day it was decided.”
Foster concluded, “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion and keep this decision with the people’s elected representatives. Praise God for these justices and may God grant them the courage to finalize this language and release their ultimate decision without delay.”
In response to the keynote speech, Flynn said, “Every person who is a supporter of life and of truth should know that everything they’ve done, every prayer they’ve said, every dollar they’ve donated, every time they’ve stood up to volunteer, (every time) that they’ve raised their voice in the face of opposition, (they) should know that it made a difference and it’s just the beginning.”
