New chancellor named for the Diocese of Springfield

SPRINGFIELD- On June 28, Springfield Bishop William D. Byrne announced the appointment of Father John G. Lessard as the chancellor of the Diocese of Springfield. 

Msgr. Daniel Liston, who has served as chancellor for more than 30 years, has begun transitioning his duties to Father Lessard.

In announcing this transition, Bishop Byrne expressed his thanks to Msgr. Liston, stating, “I am tremendously grateful to Msgr. Liston for his many years of commitment to these important duties – most of the time while also serving as a pastor.”

Msgr. Liston will continue as the pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Springfield and also serve as a consultant to Father Lessard during this transition period. 

Father Lessard was ordained in 1992. In addition to his new role as chancellor, he will continue his service at the Tribunal.
