OBITUARY: Sister Mary of the Presentation, OP

WEST SPRINGFIELD — Sister Mary of the Presentation Giblin, 92, of the Dominican Nuns in West Springfield, died on Oct. 9 after a brief illness.

She was born on July 24, 1928 in Springfield and was the daughter of the late Francis and Florence (Rougier) Giblin. She was educated in Springfield schools and received a bachelor of science degree at Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee.

In 1950 she entered the Dominican Monastery of the Mother of God in West Springfield, where she served in various positions, helping in the altar bread department, the archive room, the bursar (treasurer) office, maintenance department, and in the linen room, and on the sewing of habits. She also greeted people at the door as portress.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her brothers, Donald Giblin and Robert Giblin; her sister, Catherine Mackey; and her grandnephew, Timothy Squire. She leaves her brother, Thomas Giblin and wife Charlotte, of Orlando, Fla.; her nieces and nephews, Michael Giblin and wife Claire, Renee McBride and husband Brian, Janet Johnson and husband Marc, Dineen Squire, Carl Giblin and wife Deborah, Timothy Giblin, Karen Giblin, Mary Beth Giblin, Lynn Giblin, Ellen Mackey, Patrick Mackey, Paul Mackey, John Mackey, and Christine Mackey; her grandnephew Richard Squire; her great grandnephew John Francis Destefano III; and many extended family members and friends.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at the Dominican Monastery, 1430 Riverdale Street, West Springfield on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 10 a.m., followed by burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery on the monastery grounds. Calling hours will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dominican Nuns at the above address.
