Deacon John Bledsoe dies at 81; served at St. Patrick Parish, South Hadley

SOUTH HADLEY – Deacon John Bledsoe, 81 of South Hadley, died in his home on Sept. 6. He was a longtime deacon at St. Patrick Parish, here.
He was born in Milton, Fla., on Jan. 18, 1938. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who met his wife, Irene, while stationed in New London Conn. They married in 1957 and were married for 62 years.
As a leader in the local Cursillo community, his example of faith brought many people to Christ. As the deacon of St. Patrick Parish, he was proud to have performed over 1,500 baptisms in his 25 years of service to the community. The last baby he baptized was his great-grandson, Quentin, who brought him much joy over the last two years.
At work, he was an accomplished businessman, keeping the books and overseeing the family business, PIP Printing. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time on his boat, the C’est Si Bon.
He leaves behind his wife, Irene; their daughters, Dorene, and her husband, Wendell Pennell, and Bonnie, and her husband, Michael Robert; and six grandchildren, Sheila, Molly, Brittany, Jono, Eric, and Jamie.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11from 4-7 p.m. in St. Patrick Church, 30 Main St., South Hadley. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 11a.m. in St. Patrick Church.
