SPRINGFIELD – Hailed by pro-life groups throughout the country for its positive message, the film “October Baby” (Provident/Samuel Goldwyn) is scheduled to open April 13 at two local movie theaters: Entertainment Cinemas Springfield 16, Springfield Plaza and Rave Eastfield Mall 16, 1655 Boston Rd., both in Springfield.
In his review last weekend on the Springfield Diocese’s “Real to Reel” television program, “Reel Culture” reporter Mark Giza praised the performance of lead actress Rachel Hendrix, who plays Hannah, a teenager who discovers that she is the survivor of an attempted abortion. The movie chronicles her search for her birth mother.
“The key word to explain this film is simply the word ‘forgiveness,’” Giza said in his review. “We must forgive those who have hurt us or caused us pain in our lives. And in doing so, we are all the real winners.”
“Real to Reel” host Sharon Roulier also spoke to Karen Ford, a local promoter of the movie, who said, “I wanted to help bring the movie here so that other Catholics, other Christians, other pro-life people could have the opportunity to see it.”
Noting that the movie is based on a true story, Ford said, “Forgiveness is so important and really the message of this film is forgiveness and healing – the healing that comes from forgiving another person.”
The Catholic News Service classification of “October Baby” is A-II – adults and adolescents. The Motion Picture Association of America rating is PG-13 – parents strongly cautioned. Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
