SPRINGFIELD – Massachusetts Citizens for Life (MCFL) will hold a third “Truth About Choice” visual memorial for the unborn, Saturday, Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.at Bethany Assembly of God in Agawam. Using thousands of fetal models, the visual memorial will represent the number of babies lost to abortion in 2024. Mass Citizens held similar events at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and in Hopkinton.
“During our Truth About Choice events in Amherst and Hopkinton, we watched as visitors responded to the scene before them. The memorial prompted questions, emotions, support, comfort and, above all, a desire to act,” said Myrna Maloney Flynn, the president of MCFL.
“Whether visitors were pro-abortion or pro-life, all felt the need to engage in dialogue. There are very few human experiences which pull people to do this. The power of Truth About Choice is unique, its potential to change hearts is unmatched. We’re bringing this display to Agawam because our friends at Bethany Assembly of God recognize that potential and have a desire to help lead ongoing dialogue that results in real and lasting change,” she said.
Because of telehealth and medical abortions, the numbers in Massachusetts doubled in 2024. According to Mass.gov statistics, there were 24,355 abortions in the state in 2023. In 2024, the number jumped to 49,450. More than half of those abortions were performed on out of state residents. Thirty-one-thousand of the abortions were medical abortions, or the abortion pill.
This event is being held during Respect Life Month, which is observed each October. There is also an effort underway to repeal the new abortion expansion law, which allows abortion without restrictions past 24-weeks. Signatures are being collected for a referendum petition, which if successful, would pause the law and put the issue on the ballot in 2028 for voters to decide.
