OBITUARY: Deacon Bernard J. Fleury, Jr.

WESTHAMPTON – Deacon Bernard J. Fleury Jr., 94, passed away after a long illness on Sept. 4, 2026. He was born on June 14, 1932 in Northampton, the son of the late Bernard J. and Flora (King) Fleury Sr. Deacon Fleury was a devoted and longtime deacon for the Diocese of Springfield, working throughout western Massachusetts. He also had been a long time teacher, administrator and dedicated member of the Westfield State University community for more than 33 years.

Deacon Fleury was the beloved husband of the “love of his life” for 71 years, Ludmila “Lida” K. (Healey) Fleury. He was the cherished father to his son Edward B. Fleury and his wife, Jacalyn, and his daughter Amy and her wife, Patricia. He was the adored grandfather to Daniel J. Fleury and his husband, Mike, loving brother of Dolores Tower, Celest Mszanski and Frank Fleury and his wife, Ruth.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday Sept. 14 at Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 33 Adams St., Easthampton. Burial was at St. Brigid’s Cemetery in Easthampton. The O’Brien Funeral Home, 17 Clark St., Easthampton has been entrusted with all of the arrangements. The family of Bernard would like to thank the fourth floor nursing and CNA staff of Regal Care in Greenfield for their dedicated and compassionate care throughout Bernard’s Illness.
