CHICOPEE – The Knights of Columbus DiCalogero Agency presented a $500 scholarship to Drea Lewis, a grade two student at St. Stanislaus School in Chicopee, Tuesday, Feb. 3. Catholic school students had the opportunity to enter their name in the Knights of Columbus drawing at the beginning of the academic year. Out of 500 entries, Drea Lewis’ name was drawn.

“We started this, this year and we want to acknowledge parents. We want them to know the Knights are here for them,” said Fernando Rodriguez, a field agent for the DiCalogero agency and member of the Knights of Columbus.

“We ran this scholarship program just to help families out because I know it is not easy having a child in Catholic school financially. And this is not just a one year thing. We will do this next year,” he said.

Drea Lewis has been a student at St. Stanislaus School for three years.

“It means a lot. It’s important that we have an investment in our daughter’s education. It’s really going to help out a lot for us,” said her mother, Majesta Tatum.

The Knights of Columbus DiCalogero Agency also assisted the Catholic schools office, by paying for a pizza lunch for students after the Catholic Schools Mass in September at St. Michael’s Cathedral.

“We are very blessed to have this partnership with the Knights of Columbus. They have been very helpful and our partnership is growing,” said Maria Wagner, the superintendent of Catholic schools for the Diocese of Springfield.
