SPRINGFIELD – National Catholic Schools Week kicks off Sunday, Jan. 26 and runs through Saturday, Feb. 1. The week highlights the many merits of Catholic education, from rigorous academic standards to building a foundation of faith.

“This week is an opportunity to celebrate everything about Catholic schools, the spiritual side and the academics. All the families get to see all the great programs we have,” said Maria Wagner, the superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Springfield.

The theme of Catholic Schools Week is “United in Faith and Community.” There are 3028 students enrolled in Catholic schools in western Massachusetts.

“There are a lot of Open Houses so families who are not part of the school can see what the school is all about. Every school has a special Mass or a special prayer service. They have a lot of fun activities for the students because we have to celebrate the students. That’s why we’re here,” Wagner said.

Events are posted on each school’s Facebook page. Bishop William D. Byrne will be celebrating Mass at St. Agnes Academy in Dalton, Wednesday, Jan. 29 and at Pope Francis Preparatory School, Thursday, Jan. 30.
