October is dedicated to the rosary in the Catholic Church. The feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is observed on Oct. 7. The purpose of the feast was to thank God for the victory of the Christians over the Turks in the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. The victory is associated with praying the rosary.
