REGIONAL
Staff report

SPRINGFIELD — Catholic Charities Agency of the Diocese of Springfield is “hitting the road” with a new initiative aimed at providing home delivery of food and essential hygiene items to needy families throughout western Massachusetts.

The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts reports that each month an average of 124,282 people across Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire Counties receive emergency food assistance.

On Saturday, Sept. 13 from 12-3 p.m. Catholic Charities will host a launch of the Go Where the Need is Mobile Pantry at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, 51 Rosewell Ave., Springfield.

The mobile pantry is part of Catholic Charities Agency’s Going Where the Need Is Emergency and Crisis Services Program, bringing food, hygiene items, rent assistance, utilities assistance and service navigation support directly to underserved communities.

All are invited to attend the community event. Light refreshments will be served and there will be an opportunity to meet neighbors, sign up for home delivery and see how the Go Where the Need is Mobile Pantry will make a difference for families across western Massachusetts.

Rooted in Catholic social teaching, equity, compassion and community voice Catholic Charities supports western Massachusetts’ most vulnerable residents through an integrated human-centered approach focused on mental health, food insecurity and housing stability.
