SPRINGFIELD – To mark Divine Mercy weekend, St. Michael’s Cathedral in Springfield will hold 24 Hours of Mercy, which will include all-night eucharistic adoration and confessions beginning Friday, April 25, after the 12:10 p.m. Mass. This year the Catholic Church celebrates the 25th anniversary of St. John Paul II’s declaration of the feast of the Divine Mercy, which is marked the Sunday after Easter. St. John Paul II declared the feast when he canonized St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, the Polish nun to whom Jesus gave the message of Divine Mercy.
This event also takes place during the Jubilee Year.
“We invite all to come and experience God’s mercy,” stated Father Gary Dailey, the rector of St. Michael’s Cathedral. Father Dailey started this tradition of all-night eucharistic adoration in advance of Divine Mercy Sunday when he was the chaplain of the Newman Catholic Center at UMass in Amherst.
Priests will be available for confession during those 24 hours. Ample parking is available behind the cathedral with easy access. Security, including Springfield Police, will also be present throughout the 24 hours, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for those attending.
