OBITUARY: Sister Mary K. Dutko, SSJ

FRAMINGHAM Mass. — Sister Mary K. Dutko (Mary Jonathan), 86, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died in Bethany Health Care Center, Framingham, Mass. on February 11. Born in Langley, Va., she was the daughter of Jacob J. and Mildred M. (Babis) Dutko.

Sister Dutko entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from Our Lady of Hope Parish, Springfield in 1956. She graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms and a master’s degree in Liturgical Studies from the University of Notre Dame.

Sister Dutko taught at several schools including Blessed Sacrament, Holyoke; St Louis, Webster; Immaculate Conception, West Springfield; St. Patrick’s, Chicopee; and Cathedral High School, Springfield. She ministered at Christ the King Parish, Tompkinsville, Ky. She worked as an administrative assistant at the Myotherapy/Exercise Center in Easthampton and as a videographer assistant at MA Medical Society. She was a switchboard operator at the congregational administrative offices and the Marian Center in Holyoke. Sister Dutko was also a member of the Dan Kane Singers for 11 years.

In addition to her sisters in community, she leaves her brothers, Jacob Dutko (Jackie), Joseph Dutko (Beth), Peter Dutko (Judith), several nieces and nephews as well as grandnieces and grandnephews and several friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Mildred, her brothers, John Dutko, William Dutko and a sister, Millie Mishol.

All services for Sister Dutko will take place in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Blvd. Springfield on Tuesday, Feb. 18. She will be waked from 10-10:30 a.m. with a prayer service to follow. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m.  Burial will be in Mont Marie Cemetery in Holyoke.
