SPRINGFIELD – Trinity Health Of New England, which includes Springfield’s Mercy Medical Center along with Saint Francis Hospital, Saint Mary’s Hospital, Johnson Memorial Hospital, Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital,  and Trinity Health Of New England Medical Group, announced today it has reached a multi-year agreement with UnitedHealthcare. This agreement ensures in-network access to Trinity Health Of New England hospitals, doctors, and specialists for patients covered by UnitedHealthcare commercial and Medicare Advantage plans, effective today, August 19.

This reverses a July 17 decision that Trinity of New England would no longer accept United Health Care insurance at any of its practices and healthcare facilities because of a dispute over reimbursement rates.

“Our goal always is to avoid disruptions for patients,” said Montez Carter, PharmD, FACHE, President and CEO, Trinity Health Of New England. “This agreement was necessary to ensure Trinity Health Of New England can continue delivering the high-quality affordable care people need. With fair reimbursement, we can continue to invest in our colleagues, medical staff, innovative treatments and important health programs, protecting access to care now and in the future.”

In a statement released by UnitedHeathcare the insurer said, “we thank our members and customers for their support and patience throughout this process. We are honored to continue supporting all of the people throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts who depend on us for access to quality and affordable health care.”

Patients who receive health insurance coverage through UnitedHealthcare should contact UnitedHealthcare directly using the number on the back of their insurance card with any questions about their coverage or benefits.
