REGIONAL
Staff report

CHICOPEE – The College of Our Lady of the Elms in Chicopee recently received two grants totaling $567,000 to strengthen online learning programs and to support the Center for Equity in Urban Education. The Davis Education Foundation awarded the college $317,627 for the “Strengthening Online Learning and Engagement” initiative, which allow Elms to expand the transfer pipeline to support the college’s affordable, high quality education.

The Irene E. and George A. Davis Foundation awarded Elms a $250,000 grant for the Center for Equity in Urban Education. The center, now five years old, offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs that lead to teaching licensure. The program also addresses educational inequities for underrepresented populations to enter the teaching profession.

“I am grateful for the support and generosity of the Davis Educational Foundation and The Irene E. and George A. Davis Foundation,” said Elms College president Harry E. Dumay, Ph.D., MBA.

“Both foundations are contributing greatly to the future success of Elms College by enhancing our online education capabilities and continuing to prepare culturally responsive educators in the region,” he said.

The College of Our Lady of the Elms was founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1928. To learn more, go to elms.edu
