St. Thomas More Society to host theater fundraiser for scholarship fund

REGIONAL
Staff report

SPRINGFIELD – The St. Thomas More Society of Western Massachusetts will sponsor the full dress rehearsal showing of “The Play That Goes Wrong,” Wednesday, April 17 at the Majestic Theater in West Springfield. The cocktail hour begins at 6:30 p.m. Showtime is at 7:30 p.m. Half of all of the proceeds will go to the St. Thomas More Society’s Hon. Kent B. Smith Scholarship Fund.

“In prior years, this fundraiser event has attracted many community members from both within and outside of the legal community for a night of networking and theater to support students who often require financial assistance to complete their studies,” said Michael G. McDonough, the director of the St. Thomas More Society and managing partner of Egan, Flanagan and Cohen, P.C., in Springfield.

The St. Thomas More Society, in existence in western Massachusetts since 2001, is made up of Catholic lawyers, paralegals, judges, clerks, law enforcement agents, and those committed to the administration of justice throughout western Massachusetts. Since then, it has given thousands in scholarship to area students.

“It is our responsibility and pleasure to lend a helping hand to the next generation of lawyers, paralegals, clerks, and those who seek justice in the courts and society,” McDonough said.

The scholarship fund is named for the late jurist, Hon. Kent B. Smith, who was a beloved member of the bench and bar and a very respected attorney and judge from western Massachusetts. The scholarship fund supports college and post-graduate students pursuing a career in the law or a legal-related field, and it specifically looks for students who have demonstrated a commitment to upstanding ethics and a commitment to faith. Students of any faith are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling the box office at 413-747-7797.
