Staff report
LUDLOW – International speaker and convert to Catholicism, Roy Schoeman, will speak at Christ the King Parish in Ludlow, Thursday, Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m. Schoeman, a former Harvard professor, will recount his powerful conversion and supernatural experiences that led him to enter the Catholic Church. He will reflect on how Judaism and Catholicism are two phases in God’s plan for salvation of mankind.
“We are so excited to have Roy speak at Christ the King Parish as we prepare for the celebration of our Savior’s birth,” said Deacon Michael Forrest, a personal friend of Schoeman.
“The story of Roy’s acceptance of the Catholic faith is truly miraculous and a testimony to God’s boundless grace. How beautiful that the Jewish Messiah and his Jewish mother were so instrumental in calling our Jewish brother home,” he said.
Schoeman was born and raised by Jewish parents who escaped Nazi Germany. He described how he became an atheist while a college student at MIT. While a marketing professor at Harvard Business School, he said he was searching for meaning in life and had lost hope. It was then that he had two miraculous encounters, one with Christ and one with the Blessed Mother, that resulted in his entry into the Catholic Church.
In a videotaped testimony on “Shalom World TV,” Schoeman described his encounter stating, “The God who not only created everything in existence, but created existence, not only knew me by name, not only cared about me, but had been watching over me.”
Schoeman now writes, speaks, and teaches on Catholic theology, focusing on the relationship between Judaism and the Catholic Church. He has written two best-selling books published by Ignatius Press, “Salvation is from the Jews: The Role of Judaism in Salvation History,” and “Honey from the Rock: Sixteen Jews Find the Sweetness of Christ.” He taught theology at Ave Maria University and Holy Apostles College and Seminary. He hosts a weekly Catholic radio show on Radio Maria, has a daily internet livestream, and appears frequently on EWTN.
A question and answer period will follow his talk.
