OBITUARY: Sister Ann Lynch, SSJ

SPRINGFIELD – Sister of St. Joseph Ann Lynch (formerly Sister Alice Edmond), 84, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph, died in Baystate Medical Center, here, on Oct. 11.
Born in Springfield, she was the daughter of Edmond Joseph and Alice Gertrude (McDonnell) Lynch. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, West Springfield, in 1956. She graduated from the former Sacred Heart High School, Springfield, and earned a bachelor of arts degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee. She earned a master of arts degree from Boston College and a master of arts degree in journalism from Ball State University, Muncie, Ind.
She taught in schools in the Springfield Diocese, including the former Holy Family Scool and Cathedral High School, both in Springfield. She was director of public relations for the Sisters of St. Joseph, editor of the congregation newspaper, Mission, served as coordinator of the Office of Peace and Justice, and worked on the S.E.E.D. Committee. She also served as co-coordinator of the congregation’s Ecology Committee.
In addition to her sisters in community, she is survived by her sister, Alice Lynch; a nephew, Joseph Lynch, and his family; as well as a sister-in-law, Sandra. She was predeceased by her brother Edmond.
Burial services will take place Friday morning at 9 a.m., Oct. 14, at Mont Marie Cemetery, Holyoke. A Memorial Mass will follow at Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke at 10 a.m.
