Montez Carter named president and CEO of Trinity Health Of New England

HARTFORD, Conn. – Montez Carter has been named president and chief executive officer of Trinity Health Of New England, effective Oct. 3.

Carter succeeds Dr. Reginald J. Eadie, who has held the top leadership role at Trinity Health Of New England since 2018 and will go on to serve as senior vice president of Physician Enterprise Development for Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health.  

Carter began his career as a pharmacist, later transitioning to hospital leadership. He joined St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Ga., in 2010 as vice president of operations. He later served as president of St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro and president of St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, before his most recent position as president and chief executive officer of St. Mary’s Health Care System, which includes three hospitals, a medical group, home health care/hospice agency, outpatient facilities and a retirement community. 

Carter was tapped to serve as president and chief executive officer of Trinity Health Of New England following a nationwide search and a unanimous vote of the Board of Directors’ selection committee.

“With his board knowledge and firsthand experience, Montez has unique depth and perspective in all areas of hospital operations, including clinical services, performance improvement, and high-quality patient care and safety,” said James C. Smith, chair, Board of Trustees, Trinity Health Of New England. “These qualities, coupled with his demonstrated commitment to our Catholic Healthcare Mission, make Montez the ideal successor to current esteemed CEO Reggy Eadie, who has been promoted to oversee other activities at Trinity Health. Montez will lead our regional health ministry’s executive team, engage broadly with our caregivers and support our continued growth.”

Carter earned his doctoral degree in pharmacy from the University of Mississippi and his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Alabama. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). He also serves on several boards, including the American Hospital Association (AHA), Georgia Hospital Association, and the Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals.
