Professor Hosffman Ospino to present Sept. 12 Mary Dooley Lecture at Elms

CHICOPEE – On Sept. 12, the Institute for Theology and Pastoral Studies at College of Our Lady of the Elms, in partnership with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield, will host the Fall 2022 Sister Mary Dooley Lecture.
The free lecture is the kickoff event for the Diocese of Springfield’s Hispanic Lay Pastoral Institute Program and is open to the public. Pre-registration is required and can be completed at https://www.elms.edu/events/sister-mary-dooley-lecture/ .
The guest speaker at the Sister Mary Dooley Lecture will be Hosffman Ospino, associate professor of theology and religious education at Boston College. In Ospino’s lecture, “Hispanic Spirituality in the United States,” he will speak about the transformation that U.S. faith communities are experiencing due to the Hispanic presence and will offer a closer look at the Hispanic Catholic experience.
In addition to his tenure at Boston College, Ospino is the principal investigator for several national studies on Hispanic Catholics. His research explores closely how young Hispanics are served in the Catholic Church through education and youth ministry. Ospino is the author and editor of more than 15 books and over 150 articles.
The Hispanic Lay Pastoral Institute Program is led by the Office of Latino Ministry at the Diocese of Springfield. The seven-week series takes place on the Elms College campus every Monday evening from Sept. 12 through Oct. 24 and is open to all members of the diocese. The classes will be bilingual (English and Spanish) and pre-registration with the diocese is required.
