OBITUARY: Sister Teresa Moran, SSJ

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Sister of St. Joseph Teresa Moran (formerly Sister Francis Anna), 94, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died at Bethany Health Care Center in Framingham on Jan. 11.

Born in Worcester, Mass., she was the daughter of Michael and Sarah (McMahon) Moran. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from St. Stephen Parish in Worcester in 1944. She graduated from St. Stephen High School in Worcester and earned a bachelor of arts degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee.

She ministered in the Diocese of Springfield as a teacher at the former Cathedral Grammar School and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School in Springfield; and as principal at the former Sacred Heart School in Pittsfield. She served in the Diocese of Worcester, teaching at St. Mary School in Milford; and in the Diocese of Providence, R.I., as principal at Sacred Heart School in Pawtucket, R.I. She was also a pastoral minister at St. Joseph Parish in Johnston, R.I., and a pastoral minister at St. Theresa Parish in Pittsfield.

Sister Moran was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Mary (Sister Joseph Anne), and Rita (Sister Anna Patrice): and her brothers, John. Joseph and Frances. She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters in community, her brother James, several generations of loving nieces and nephews, and many friends, including Sister Margaret O’Neil. The Sisters of St. Joseph, Sister’s family and friends wish to express gratitude to the staff at Bethany Health Care Center for the compassionate care given to Sister Moran during these past few months.

Services for Sister Moran will be held on Thursday, Jan. 13 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke. She will be waked from 10-10:45 a.m. with a prayer service at 10:15 a.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mont Marie Cemetery in Holyoke.
