OBITUARY: Sister Annette Marie Chagnon, SSJ

HOLYOKE – Sister of St. Joseph Annette Marie Chagnon, 80, formerly known as Cecile, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died on Feb. 28 at Mont Marie Health Care Center, here.

Born in Fall River, Mass., she was the daughter of Albert and Ida (Martel) Chagnon. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of LePuy in Fall River, Mass., from St. Michael Parish, Ocean Grove, Mass., in 1951 and became a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield when the two congregations merged in 1974. She graduated from St. Therese Novitiate High School in Fall River. She earned an associate’s degree from Bristol Community College and a bachelor of arts degree from Southeastern Massachusetts University.

She taught at St. Jean Baptiste, St. Roch, and Blessed Sacrament Schools in Fall River; St. Louis de France, Swansea, Mass.; St. Joseph’s and St. Therese’s, New Bedford, Mass.; and also at St. Joseph Montessori School, Fall River. She worked at Mont Marie as part of the support staff for the conference center and for Weston Rehab Associates.

In addition to her sisters in community, she is survived by her sister, Annette Cantin, and several nieces and nephews.

All services will take place in St. Joseph Chapel at Mont Marie in Holyoke on Friday, March 2. She will be waked from 9:30-10:30 a.m., with a prayer service at 10 a.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mont Marie Cemetery.
