SPRINGFIELD – Springfield Bishop Mitchell T. Rozanski will ordain Montgomery native, Deacon Barrent Pease, to the priesthood during ceremonies scheduled for 11 a.m. on June 10 at St. Michael’s Cathedral on State Street in Springfield.
Deacon Pease, who is currently assigned to Mary Mother of Hope Parish in Springfield, will be ordained after completing his formation studies at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, Mass.
“After many experiences in the world of work, then in the seminary, he’s finally coming to the point where he is committing his life to serve God and his people as a priest. What a joyful day that is for the church of Springfield,” said Bishop Rozanski.
One of five children, Deacon Pease grew up in Montgomery. He graduated from Gateway Regional High School in 2006.
The 29-year-old attended Holyoke Community College for two years before transferring to Our Lady of Providence College Seminary. He graduated in 2010 with a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy.
He recently completed his fourth year of theology at St. John’s Seminary.
“I’d say I’m ready and waiting to see what God’s going to unfold with my life. I’m opening my life to God and his church and part of the mystery is waiting to see how it unfolds,” said Deacon Pease.
The ordination will be shown live via streaming video on the diocesan website, www.diospringfield.org as well as broadcast on Springfield radio station WZCS-LP FM 102.5 Catolica Springfield.
There are currently 17 men in priestly formation for the Diocese of Springfield.
