OBITUARY: Carol Brown, longtime Catholic school educator

SPRINGFIELD — Carol M. Brown, 65, of Springfield, a longtime employee in diocesan Catholic schools, died on July 25.

A Springfield native, she was born Aug. 12, 1952 to the late Ernest W. and Annie L. (Barrow) Brown. She dedicated her life as a teacher and principal, educating children across the Diocese of Springfield at many schools, including Holy Family, Cathedral Grammar, Sacred Heart, Holy Cross, and St. Michael’s Academy, all in Springfield.

A July 27 statement from St. Michael’s Academy noted, “St. Ms. Brown was a dedicated employee of the Diocese of Springfield for over 41 years, most recently teaching science at Holy Cross School and St. Michael’s Academy. She was a dear friend to many and her contagious laugh will ring through the halls of St. Michael’s for years to come.”

She is survived by her brothers, James and his wife, Maxine; William and his wife, Lyn; and her twin Carl; her sister, Beverly; and a special cousin, Barbara Akers, as well as her best friend of more than 25 years, Susan Wuller and Susan’s four children and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, July 29 at the Sampson Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Rd, Springfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick Church, Springfield, on Monday, July 30 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Springfield.
