HOLYOKE – The Marcotte Ford Family is this year’s recipient of the Sister Agnes Broderick, SP Justice and Peace Award from Providence Ministries for the Needy (PMN). The award was presented by Sisters of Providence President Kathleen Popko during PMN’s Recognition Dinner held May 18 at The Log Cabin.

One hundred and thirty-four PMN supporters attended the event.

Sister of Providence Margaret McCleary founded PMN in 1980 to feed, clothe and shelter those in need. PMN credits its nearly 40 years of providing these types of services to its highly committed volunteers, donors and staff who work tirelessly to achieve the PMN mission.

Springfield Bishop Mitchell T. Rozanski offers the invocation at Providence Ministries’ May 18 Recognition Dinner at The Log Cabin, Holyoke.

The late Sister of Providence Agnes Broderick was a social worker devoted to causes for social justice and peace, and the first chair of the PMN Board. Sister McCleary established the award for recipients who, like Sister Agnes, “stand in compassionate love with the poor.”

PMN Board Chair Jean Zaleski noted that, “The Marcotte Ford Family is a steadfast champion of Providence Ministries and has generously donated their time and resources to those most in need in our community.”

John Wesolowski, chief financial officer for the Sisters of Providence, added his appreciation for the family’s efforts, saying, “The Marcottes are this year’s recipients by virtue of their many years of service to the greater Holyoke community. They truly exemplify the giving spirit, sense of community, justice and compassion of Sister Agnes Broderick.”

Other recognition presentations that evening included PMN’s Trustee Service Award to the Holyoke Police Department and Holyoke Fire Department; Grenier Leadership Award to Robert Woodill; the Board Service Award to Dan O’Neil; and the Exemplary Service Award to Brenda Lamagdeleine, manager of PMN’s Margaret’s Pantry.

Earlier Sister Agnes Broderick Award recipients have included Sheriff Michael Ashe; Sister Kathleen Popko; Mayor Elaine Pluta; Mayor Michael Sullivan; and Bishop Joseph Maguire.

PMN is a member of the Sisters of Providence Ministry Corporation.
